Winnipeg, MB (February 1, 2017): BMO Financial Group is supporting the Bringing Our Stories Forward Capital & Endowment Campaign with a generous donation of $250,000.
The year 2020 is going to be a landmark year in Manitoba as three major anniversaries are recognized - Manitoba Museum’s 50th, the province’s 150th, and HBC’s 350th. In preparation for this big event, the Manitoba Museum is renewing 42% of its galleries including the Urban Gallery, which features a component of an original 1880s Bank of Montreal building. Additionally, the Nonsuch, Grasslands, and Orientation Galleries will be renewed and a new Winnipeg Gallery will be opened.
“We’ve had a great relationship doing business with BMO over the last 50 years, and we’re thrilled that they are supporting our vision to share the stories of Manitoba with Manitobans and tourists in new and exciting ways,” said Claudette Leclerc, Executive Director and CEO of the Manitoba Museum. “We are so grateful for their generosity and commitment to the community.”
Bringing Our Stories Forward is the second phase of the larger Capital Renewal Vision. The first project, the Alloway Hall Expansion & Renewal Project, is set to be completed on time and on budget this March. The third and final phase of the overall Vision is still in the conceptual stage, and will see the construction of a stand-alone science centre, creation of a Community Commons at the Museum’s Main Street entrance, and new facilities for research, conservation and education.
“We are proud of our continued collaborations with the Manitoba Museum and are pleased to help support an initiative that communicates the province’s stories and educates on Canada’s heritage at large,” said John MacAulay, Senior Vice-President, Prairies Central Canada Division, BMO Bank of Montreal. “This project is especially meaningful for us as it reiterates the bank’s long-standing commitment to learning and includes some of BMO’s own history in the process, during what is promised to be a milestone year for the museum.”
BMO Financial Group’s support of the Manitoba Museum goes back decades. Currently, BMO is presenting sponsor of Spring Break at the Museum - its busiest week of the year when the Museum receives up to 15,000 visitors.
