Manitoba People

Learning about our history and the experiences, struggles, and triumphs of those that came before us can help us make better informed decisions for the future. The Museum is committed to increasing awareness and appreciation of Manitoba’s human heritage through the acquisition, preservation, and display of significant artifacts that tell the story of this province and its people.

The research conducted by our human history curators, who work in the disciplines of archaeology, ethnology, history, and the Hudson’s Bay Company collection, helps us understand where we came from, how we got here, and what may impact our future, both locally and in a global context.

Humanities collections are assembled and cared for by curators, conservators and collections managers in secure climate-controlled laboratories and storage facilities. Artifacts are used for research, gallery and exhibit development, public programming and as educational teaching aids. At any given time, it is only possible to display a fraction of our collection in the Museum galleries. To view over four hundred of the incredible artifacts stored in our climate-controlled vaults, please click on the “Collections Database” option on the left-hand menu.
