Dive into an ocean of fun with family programming at the Manitoba Museum this summer! Enjoy hands-on activities and engaging programming happening every day throughout July & August.
Use your sleuthing skills to find Little Narwhal and their friends hidden throughout the Museum Galleries with our Little Narwhal’s Adventure Scavenger Hunt.
Learn some un-whale-ievable facts, dig for fantastic fossils, decipher ancient artifacts, play traditional Inuit games, and more in the Museum Galleries!
We’re welcoming a new pod of friends in the Science Gallery! Dive in with Kiki the orca and her pod of southern resident killer whales in Critical Distance, a new augmented reality experience.
In the Planetarium, explore the sky through Cree sky “tellings” in Wilfred Buck’s STAR STORIES, and discover your place in space with a tour of The Milky Way – Live. Younger visitors will love a Voyage of the Stars to explore outer space and under the sea.
The Manitoba Museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm daily in July & August.

Little Narwhal’s Adventure Scavenger Hunt
Daily 10:00 – 4:00 pm
Please help us find Little Narwhal! Little Narwhal set off on an adventure to learn about animals found in Manitoba and got lost in all the fun!
Pick up your free scavenger hunt in the Welcome Gallery, next to the Bison Diorama, and let us know what animals Little Narwhal discovered during their adventure.

Dandy Dinosaurs
Mondays and Thursdays, from 1 to 4 pm, in the Earth History Gallery
Step back in time to the Cretaceous and get to know the ancestors of today’s birds: the dinosaurs! Compare dinosaur fossils to modern bird specimens to explore how they evolved, then search through the sand in our Dino Dig to find the skull and deadly claws of the fearsome, feathered Deinonychus!
Amazing Archaeology
Tuesdays and Fridays, from 1 to 4 pm, in the Prairies Gallery
Become a detective of Manitoba’s past and examine evidence left behind by people who lived in different historical periods – including tools made thousands of years ago! You’ll get hands-on with artifacts to learn the methods used by archaeologists.
Whale of a Time
Wednesdays and Sundays, from 1 to 4 pm, in the Nonsuch Gallery
Dive deep into the icy water of the Hudson Bay and learn un-whale-ievable facts about whales’ biology, habitats and concerns for their welfare.
Awesome Arctic Adventures
Saturdays, from 1 to 4 pm, in the Arctic/Sub-Arctic Gallery
Play it cool with our afternoon of Awesome Arctic Adventures. You’ll learn about northern wildlife, examine artifacts, and play traditional Inuit games.
This drop-in activity features a ring and pin game craft that you can make here and play at home.

Tuesdays, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the Arctic/Sub-Arctic Gallery
Visit Parks Canada’s interactive booth to explore how caribou shape Wapusk National Park’s ecosystem. Play a matching game about Inuit uses of caribou and learn about Indigenous hunting practices, discover the impact of climate change on migratory routes and learn about the important work Parks Canada scientists are doing within the national park to help protect and conserve the caribou’s habitat.

This family-friendly adventure follows two “stars” – starfish Astéria and shooting star Stella – as they embark on an exciting quest under the oceans. This film, designed for young viewers, offers authentic underwater visuals that will enchant audiences of all ages.
Wilfred Buck’s STAR STORIES
(Recommended for ages 10+)
Embark on a journey through the stars with Indigenous astronomer Wilfred Buck as he shares tellings of the night sky handed down by Ininew (Cree) elders over the generations.
The Milky Way – LIVE
(Recommended for ages 10+)
Take a guided tour of our Milky Way galaxy, from our Sun’s location in the “suburbs” to the supermassive black hole at the center of “downtown”. Discover your place in space and find out what celestial sights you can see over the summer, Presented live by a science communicator with time for audience questions at the end.
Science Gallery
Daily, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Every exhibit in the Science Gallery is yours to touch, feel, and interact with as a scientist, engineer, or wide-eyed explorer. Play with illusions, test the laws of gravity, or dive into our one-of-a-kind Lake Winnipeg simulator. Hands-on, interactive learning will spark your imagination and challenge your mind.
Critical Distance – a social augmented reality experience
Daily, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the Explore Science Zone
Critical Distance is an augmented reality (AR) experience that follows Kiki – an eight-year-old orca – and a group of southern resident orcas known as J pod. Seen through the eyes of Kiki, Critical Distance offers a unique and immersive AR experience where visitors can interact with sound waves and touch elements to learn about echolocation, noise pollution, and the daily perils facing this critically endangered pod as they navigate life in the Salish Sea.
Each 15-minute AR session is limited to eight participants and subject to availability. This experience is open for visitors aged 10 and older.
