Manitoba Museum Board of Governors Call for Expressions of Interest

About the Manitoba Museum

The Manitoba Museum (the Museum) is an award-winning, world-class interpretive Museum and is Manitoba’s largest heritage centre, collecting, researching, and exhibiting both Manitoba’s human and natural histories. Through school and public programming, the Museum welcomes nearly 100,000 K-12 learners each year in addition to hundreds of thousands of Manitobans, Canadians, and international visitors. Multidimensional interpretation, science and astronomy education, full dome Planetarium shows and programs, as well as community co-created special events create impactful, lasting, and transformational experiences.

Board of Governors

The Manitoba Museum is inviting community members to express interest in serving on the Board of Governors. Based on the current Board composition and skills matrix, individuals who are passionate about heritage, culture, and the communities that make up our beautifully diverse province, and who possess the following knowledge, skills, and lived experience would most strongly complement the existing Museum Board’s attributes and support its strategic priorities.

The Manitoba Museum is committed to reflecting the diverse communities of our province within our Board. We particularly encourage applications from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, people of colour, newcomers, people with disabilities, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, who possess expertise in the following areas:

  • Truth and Reconciliation, Indigenous relations, and knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis historical and contemporary stories;
  • Fund development, including experience with large capital campaigns and donor relations;
  • Labour and management relations and human resource management;
  • Government relations and knowledge of legislation and policy related to museums, heritage, and culture;
  • Board governance, strategic planning, and change management;
  • Knowledge of K-12 education & curricula and experience in post-secondary institutions.

This is a volunteer role, with an expected commitment of approximately three hours a month, from September to June.
