Pathways: Stories of How We Got Here

If you had to choose one object to tell your story, what would it be and what story would it tell?
Pathways: The Stories of How We Got Here gives eight newcomer women a platform to share their stories of their journey to Canada, as connected with an object that holds special meaning in their immigration story.
Pathways is a storytelling and performance project that seeks to help newcomer women find community and belonging in their new home, improve their English communication skills, and build capacity as community leaders. Over 12 weeks, participants meet with writing and performance coaches to craft their stories and build their public speaking skills. This process culminates in public performances to share their stories live on stage.
Join us on June 22 and 23 to hear the incredible and inspiring stories of eight women who made the journey to begin a new life in Canada, as told through their own eyes and in their own words.

Coaches:
Dr. Patlee Creary is a lived experience researcher, storyteller, writer, and trauma-sensitive group facilitator. Patlee graduated from the University of Manitoba’s peace and conflict studies program in 2018. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the impact of stories and narratives on soldiers’ roles and identities in peace support operations. Patlee uses her explorations of story and narrative to inform her work at Reyou, where she provides capacity-building workshops that help transform conflicts and improve well-being and resilience. Patlee is a member of the Manitoba Writers Guild and the Canadian Community Economic Development Network. She resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with her husband and two daughters.
Rachel E Smith is a director, producer, writer, actor and arts educator working in theatre and film. Rachel is passionate about creating original work, often experimenting with form and seeking to deliver unique productions that are thought-provoking and entertaining. Her drive to always grow as an artist has led to her proficiency in various artistic roles and performative mediums. In addition to her accomplishments as an artist, she has taught performance-based classes since 2016. Rachel currently works as a performance coach, helping others gain confidence and eloquence in their presentation skills. For more information, visit CeleeProductions.com
