The Manitoba Museum is excited to partner with Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries to present our First Fridays programming! Join us on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm for free general admission to our three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

Friday, December 6:

Manidoo Miinniigooizowin, A Gift from the Creator

Discovery Room & Welcome Gallery – 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Featuring objects representing the 34 Southern Chiefs’ Organization member Nations, this exhibition is a celebration of the past, present, and future. The objects on display exemplify the beauty and resilience of the Anishinaabe and Dakota peoples and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization. 

 

 

 

 

 

Film Screening: Arutinae

The film follows a young songwriter who seeks out her folk idol in a sleepy lakeside village, only to become enmeshed in a secretive society whose rituals safeguard the threshold between worlds. The 2-hour film will start at 6:30 pm, followed by a 30-minute Q&A with the director at 8:30 pm. Doors open at 6 pm.

 

 

 

 

 

Guest Scientists: Living Laboratory

Science Gallery, Explore Science Zone – 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

A student researcher going through a study activity with a child in the Explore Science Zone.Have you ever wondered how children’s minds work? Visit University of Manitoba researchers at their Living Laboratory in the Explore Science Zone. The Living Laboratory is an educational research experience where visitors of all ages can learn about the development of the human mind by participating in fun hands-on research studies and games.

 

 

 

 

 

Hands-on Fun in the Science Gallery

Science Gallery, 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm

A child placing colourful pegs into the slots of a giant Lite Bright set embedded in a wall.Every exhibit in the Science Gallery is yours to touch, feel, and interact with as a scientist, engineer, or wide-eyed explorer. Play with illusions, test the laws of gravity, or dive into our one-of-a-kind Lake Winnipeg simulator. Hands-on, interactive learning will spark your imagination and challenge your mind.

Live Sky Tour: Get a live tour of the night skies in the Planetarium! Discover constellations, planets, and the Milky Way.

The Longest Night: A young girl born into a family of nomadic storytellers, embarks on a simple quest that leads her to a dragon’s nest. What will she discover there, and how will it help her save her village? This one of a kind show is a timeless fable of courage, generosity and renewal.
