How to Donate to the Collection

Thank you for your interest in growing the Manitoba Museum’s collections!

A number of criteria impact whether a donation is accepted, such as the historic or scientific value of an item, its condition, gaps in our existing collections, our ability to care for and store the object or specimen on offer, and its relevance to the Museum’s mandate. To help us in this assessment, please provide as much detail as possible, including images of the object or specimen, while filling in the form below.

Potential donations go through a formal assessment and approval process:

  1. Offers are reviewed and assessed by a curator.
  2. The curator makes a recommendation to the Museum’s Collection Committee, which meets on a monthly basis. Click here to read the Museum Collection Policy.
  3. The Committee approves or rejects the recommendation.
  4. The donor is advised of the decision (expect to hear within 8 weeks of the proposal).
  5. If approved, the donor is sent a Deed of Gift to sign and return. The Deed of Gift is a formal agreement required for us to accession any objects or specimens into the collections.

If an offer is accepted, the donor transfers his/her ownership in the object to the Museum. Please consider making a monetary donation to accompany your object donation. This will help us provide the best level of care and storage for your donated item to ensure its preservation.
