An event every month that begins at 4:00 pm on day First of the month, repeating until June 2, 2023

The Manitoba Museum is excited to partner with Manitoba Liquor Marts to present our First Fridays programming! Join us on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm for free general admission to our three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

The Sounds of Manitoba – Museum Tour

Join us in a free, 30-minute guided tour that explores the dynamic role of sound in the history of our province!  Learn about birdsong and echolocation, get to know the origins and continuing legacy of the jingle dress, and discover the elusive sounds of the Northern Lights.

Meet at the Bison Diorama in the Museum Galleries, tours at 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm

Telescope Observing

See the planets Saturn and Jupiter and the Moon LIVE through telescopes provided by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada’s Winnipeg Centre.

Main Street Plaza, Outside the Planetarium Dome, 5:00pm to 9:00pm

(Weather permitting – telescopes will be cancelled if the sky is overcast. Should this event need to be cancelled we will make a post announcing it on our social media accounts. Follow us @ManitobaMuseum on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter)

 

Hands-on Fun in the Science Gallery 

Test the universal laws of science and explore the wonders of technology and illusion in Science Gallery. Learn about yourself and the world around you through entertaining hands-on activities where you become the scientist. Check out fan favourites such as the Matrix (mirror room), the pulley chairs, and the race track! 

First Friday LEGO Challenge: It’s an explosion of colour this month as we challenge our First Friday visitors to build their most awe-inspiring rainbow. We’ll leave it up to you to make your own pot o’ gold! Don’t forget to take a picture and share on social media (and tag @ManitobaMuseum)!

Microscopy: The Science of the Small 

Get ready to explore a whole new world that exists right beneath your eyes – through the lens of a microscope. Scientists have used microscopes to study the tiniest living things and solve some mysteries of the Universe, and now YOU can too! See everyday objects in a way you’ve probably never imagined – all under the expert guidance of our Science Communicators.
