Visits take place Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm, except for statutory holidays. We require a minimum of 3 weeks’ notice to organize your visit.

After your complete the form below, you will receive a receipt of submission by e-mail. Please check your junk/spam folder if you do not receive this in your inbox. One of our staff will reach out personally to confirm the date and details of your visit.
It depends on our schedules and who is available. Our team includes Curators, Collections Management Specialists, and Collections Technicians.
Photography of many specimens or objects is permitted, although the use of photos beyond personal use (ex. publication) requires additional permissions (see Conditions of Access).
No food or drink are allowed in the collection spaces, but we do have public areas where you can take a break, have lunch, etc.
- Access to collections or collections data/records may be granted for any of the following purposes: scholarly or personal research, specimen identification, approved specimen reproduction requests, photography (subject to restrictions), professional consultations, and other projects with specific educational or conservation goals.
- Where intended use is for publication (physical or digital), exhibition, or commercial use, prior permission must be granted in writing by The Manitoba Museum. User fees may be applicable. Agreeing to these Conditions of Access DOES NOT imply permission to publish unless an Intellectual Property Agreement is in place.
- Unless otherwise arranged as an outgoing loan, removal of specimens from the premises is not allowed.
- Access to certain objects or specimens and associated data is restricted. Except under extraordinary circumstances, no access will be allowed to the accession register, donor files, or any files containing specimen valuations. The names and addresses of donors are treated as confidential information.
- If a specimen or object is considered especially fragile, or where collections are not fully processed, The Manitoba Museum reserves the right to limit or restrict access, in any way.
- Information from the Museum may be used solely by the Client and may not be repackaged, sold, redistributed in any form to any other person, or copied or incorporated into the collections of any archives, library, other repository or into any online database. Further, the Client assumes all responsibility for the use of information supplied by the Museum and agrees to hold the Museum harmless for any claims, suits, causes of action or damages arising from use of such information or actions taken based upon the information provided by the Museum.
- All rights in any documentation supplied by the Museum, including without limitation any copyrights, will remain vested with the Museum.
- The Manitoba Museum makes no expressed or implied warranties concerning the accuracy or completeness of collections data/records provided, or its suitability for any purpose. Further, the Museum warrants and represents that to the best of its knowledge, it has the right to supply information.
- The Manitoba Museum reserves the right to refuse access to the collection to any individual or group.
- Acknowledgement & Credits: The Client shall acknowledge the museum as the “Manitoba Museum” in all corresponding printed materials, and shall cite museum Object IDs and institutional abbreviations as specified by relevant collections staff. For objects loaned for exhibition or their likeness (i.e. image, reproduction, replica, copy), the Client is required to send one copy of any catalogue or publicity material directly to the Lender as soon as possible after the production of such catalogue or publicity material. The Client likewise agrees to send the Lender copies of all collections data materials (i.e. instrumental data analysis, X-rays, images) and any final report or article within six months of being produced.
- By agreeing to these Conditions of Access, and submitting applicable fees, the Client agrees to be bound by the above terms and conditions.
