Amelia Fay is the Director of Research, Collections, & Exhibitions, having served as Curator of the HBC Museum Collection (2013-2022) and then Curator of both Anthropology and the HBC Museum Collection (2022-2025). She received her BA in Anthropology from the University of Manitoba (2004), an MA in Archaeology from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2008), and her Doctoral degree from Memorial University (2016). Amelia’s doctoral research focused on Inuit-European contact along the Labrador coast, and her research interests expanded to explore the effects of colonialism and Indigenous-European contact throughout Canada.
In her current role as Director, Amelia supports the RCE team in all areas of their work and works hard to promote the idea that we are all stewards of these important collections. A significant portion of her work pertains to the Museum’s repatriation program and community engagement and access to collections. She also retains a smaller curatorial role focused on the non-Indigenous artifacts within the HBC Museum Collection and general HBC history.
