Indigenous History Month Self-Guided Trail

Join us in honouring and celebrating the stories, cultures, and languages of the diverse Indigenous peoples who have called this land home since time immemorial. Pick up a copy of the Indigenous History Month trail and explore the Museum Galleries to learn new words in Indigenous languages spoken across Manitoba. On this journey, discover connections of heritage, heart, and community.
The Paper Trail to the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act

The Paper Trail to the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act exhibition takes an unflinching look at Canada’s exclusion years from 1923 to 1947 when immigration certificates were imposed, which prevented Chinese immigrants from entering Canada. It reveals haunting stories of loss, despair and fear, as well as powerful examples of courage and perseverance despite incredible odds.

Earth History Gallery – 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Join members of the University of Manitoba’s Ed Leith Cretaceous Menagerie as they show off some specimens from their collection, their stories, and the research being done in our province. The Ed Leith Cretaceous Menagerie contains a collection of paleontological skeletons, fossils, and geological treasures. This is a rare chance to meet with representatives from one of Winnipeg’s hidden museum gems!
Guest Scientists: Living Laboratory

Have you ever wondered how children’s minds work? Visit University of Manitoba researchers at their Living Laboratory in the Earth History Gallery. The Living Laboratory is an educational research experience where visitors of all ages can learn about the development of the human mind by participating in fun hands-on research studies and games.
Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum: Pointillism
Arctic Gallery – 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Stop by and discover a new way to draw! Join Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum for a hands-on activity exploring the classic technique of pointillism. Inspired by Métis floral designs, use vibrant markers and distinct dots of color to see how patterns and shapes come together to create a full image.

Test the universal laws of science and explore the wonders of technology and illusion in the Science Gallery. Learn about yourself and the world around you through entertaining hands-on activities where you become the scientist.

Guest Scientists: Child Cognition and Learning Lab
Science Gallery – 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Come visit researchers from the University of Winnipeg Child Development Labs! Children ages 3-7 years old are welcome to participate in our research exploring how children reason about counterintuitive events. Learn more about our on-campus studies exploring how children’s developing brains learn about math and numbers. All children are welcome to play math games and learn about science!
