On the right is a black and white vintage photo of a family comprising of two adults, two children, and a baby in a cradleboard, all wearing winter layers and standing outdoors smiling at the camera. Text along the top reads, "From Talk to Table: Indigenous Motherhood".

From Talk to Table: Indigenous Motherhood explores parenting throughout time on Turtle Island. This program will include an in-depth tour of Indigenous artifacts in the Museum Galleries, such as cradleboards and baby moccasins, and will also look more deeply at parenting and birthing practises, coming-of age-ceremonies, and how traditional Indigenous parenting is being revitalized in the aftermath of colonialism and residential schools.

This tour will run at 11 am and 2 pm on Sunday, May 12, and will be led by Tashina Houle-Schlup, Head of Indigenous Programming & Engagement at the Manitoba Museum. Tashina is Anishinaabe and a graduate from Brandon University with a BA in English and History. She is a quillwork artist and is passionate about sharing Indigenous culture and history.

The tour will run for approximately one hour, and will include a short visit behind-the-scenes to our Museum storage lab. After the tour, participants are invited to join us for tea, bannock, and further conversation.
