Two evenings of music celebrate the
50th Anniversary of the Planetarium and the
reopening of the Nonsuch Gallery
(Winnipeg, MB: June 21, 2018) The Manitoba Museum and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) are excited to present back-to-back evenings of music, July 3 and 4, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Planetarium and the reopening of the Nonsuch Gallery.
Immerse yourself in the special atmosphere of the Manitoba Museum’s Planetarium as we celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Musicians from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will expand your horizons with a concert of shimmering celestial compositions inspired by space, time and vision. Enveloping images of the stars, the sky, and the universe will elevate the sounds of the music in this unique theatre.
The Science Gallery will be open before and after each performance. Guests are welcome to explore the gallery before and/or after the performances. Doors to the Planetarium will open 15 minutes before each performance.
The Nonsuch replica was built in England to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1970. This year, the Nonsuch Gallery was transformed – updated with new immersive experiences, artifacts, and stories. The reopening of the Gallery coincides with the 350th anniversary of the original Nonsuch voyage to Hudson Bay in 1668.
Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra musicians will perform on the deck of the Nonsuch and around the ship in a program of water music from the pens of George Frideric Handel and other great composers!
Please note that the concert in the Nonsuch Gallery is a standing room only event with limited seating reserved for those with mobility issues. The Museum Galleries will be open to explore before and/or after each performance. Doors to the Nonsuch Gallery will open approximately 30 minutes before each performance.
Enjoy one evening for $25, or bundle for back-to-back evenings for $20/ticket! Order tickets online and use promo code “wsomm” to save $10 on your bundle.
There will be a cash bar available with complimentary light appetizers served throughout both evenings.
