Join us on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm for free general admission to our three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

Queering & Querying the Museum
We are celebrating LGBT+ History Month! This 30-minute guided tour will share stories of 2SLGBTQ+ communities in Manitoba, including sites of repression, resistance, and political activism, and an examination of the challenges of historical interpretation. We’re looking at ways of interrogating and integrating, reflecting and responding – join us as we open the closet doors and invite the community to “query and queer” the Museum.

Opening night of Our Climate Quest
Make your mark at Our Climate Quest! This exciting new exhibit by Science North is visiting the Manitoba Museum from October 7 to November 18, 2022. Jam-packed with hands-on activities for all ages, it’s sure to be a memorable experience for the whole family. Check out the Climate Action Show, find your path to action, meet real change-makers, and more. Come learn how you can take small steps to big change on the path to climate action!

Indigo Experience Workshop
Join us for an interactive Indigo Experience from 5:45 – 6:45 pm! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn about what makes dyeing with indigo unique, surface design techniques, and create an indigo-dyed bandana entirely hand-made by you!

Planetarium: Live in the Sky & Screenings of Explore
Visit the Planetarium for screenings of our new show, Explore, or pop-in for a 20-minute live show! Live in the Sky will explore constellations, the planets, and celestial events. Spend some time under the stars as we learn more about the universe.

Live in the Sky will explore constellations, the planets, and celestial events. Spend some time under the stars as we learn more about the universe.
Explore takes audiences to Mars, with stops throughout history to discover the knowledge needed to voyage to other worlds. From the first skywatchers trying to understand the motions of the heavens, to the future generation of explorers who will travel to Mars, Explore follows humanity’s drive to explore our universe.
Hands-on Fun in the Science Gallery
Test the universal laws of science and explore the wonders of technology and illusion in Science Gallery. Learn about yourself and the world around you through entertaining hands-on activities where you become the scientist. Check out fan favourites such as the Matrix (mirror room), the pulley chairs, and the race track!
First Friday LEGO Challenge: Can you build a lighthouse to keep brave sailors away from the rocks? Big or small, put your engineering skills to the test in our LEGO Brickyard! Don’t forget to take a picture and post to Instagram (and tag @manitobamuseum)!

Oceans ALIVE! in the Explore Science Zone
Dive into this hands-on workshop, developed by the Canadian Museum of Nature and Ingenium to promote the importance of aquatic health throughout Canada. Visitors will have the opportunity to program a RiverBot (line tracking robot) to gobble up plastic garbage in a river; use handheld microscopes to investigate aquatic organisms and microplastics samples up close; and then test their knowledge with our water trivia game.
