Product Description

This toboggan model documents the northern Cree material culture of the late 19th and early 20th century. It is part of the Esther Ross Collection assembled by Esther and her parents. Esther’s father, Rev. Samuel Gaudin, served for over 40 years as a missionary at Cross Lake, Nelson House, and Norway House, while her mother Anna, a nurse, provided medical services. Esther used the collection, including this model, in her teaching career in northern Manitoba and Transcona.
