This copper samovar, made by Ivan Kostantinov in Moscow, was obtained from a trading post at East Cape, Bering Strait in 1921. The samovar is part of a small group of items in the HBC collection that are the legacy of the Kamchatka Venture. In 1921 the Company launched the venture to trade independently for furs in eastern Siberia. Changing political conditions caused the company to withdraw from the Siberian trade by 1923.
