This mounted bison head is over 100 years old. It is a bull from the famous Pablo/Allard herd bought by the Canadian government between 1907 and 1914 that helped bring these magnificent animals back from the brink of extinction. The original herd was rounded up around the Montana and Alberta border in the early 1870s as bison were disappearing from North America. As far as we can determine, this animal was a casualty of capture in 1911 and was prepared that year by the well-known Winnipeg taxidermist, Edward Darbey, in his shop right on Main Street.
