This historic collection of bird eggs was collected by a young boy who accompanied his grandfather on adventuresome ‘collection trips’ in the late 1930’s to the early 1940’s in areas around Winnipeg. At this time, egg collecting was considered a popular activity by both researchers and amateur naturalists, and it was still legal to do so. Today, migratory birds, their nests and eggs are strictly protected, making their collection illegal. This makes the donation of these types of collections to the Manitoba Museum invaluable for their potential for future research purposes.
