Workshop: Slow Fashion Pinafore with Katherine Magne

April 26 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Slow down and move away from wasteful fast fashion with this workshop. We’ll be learning how to sew a York Pinafore, a modern take on a garment that was in heavy use in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This pinafore has a scoop neck, deep scooped sides, and a large pocket with a separate place for a pencil or pen. It hits just above the knee and can be worn year-round, layered over a tee or tank in the summer, a blouse or long sleeve top in the transition seasons, or with a turtleneck and tights in the winter. We’ll be sewing with a beautiful grey organic cotton/linen blend that is easy to sew and wash.

Skills learned:

  • How to cut out a pattern paying attention to grainlines
  • How to sew curves
  • How to use bias tape
  • How to topstitch a pocket
  • How to finish seams

April 26 • 10 AM – 4 PM

This workshop will also include a behind-the-scenes look into the Museum vaults, where we’ll see how the generations before us made their clothes. Patterns and material will be provided.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants must provide their own sewing machines. A small number of machines may be available for rent; please contact prior to registration if you will require a sewing machine.

Lunch and light refreshments will be provided.

General $140 + GST / Member $120 +GST
