Manitoba Day

Join us, along with our presenting sponsor, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, on May 6, 2017 for a very special celebration in honour of Manitoba's 147th Birthday!

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

  • FREE ADMISSIONto the Museum Galleries, Science Gallery and Planetarium shows all day long!
  • GREET “Niibin” the Canada Summer Games mascot between 11 am and 1 pm in Alloway Hall
  • MEET Janine Stephens, Olympic Silver Medallist, presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries • 2 pm to 5 pm in Alloway Hall
  • ATTEND the Arts, Culture, Heritage and Science Fair in Alloway Hall
  • CREATE your own “birch bark” basket or Métis friendship bracelet inspired by the artifacts from the Museum’s collections in Alloway Hall
  • ENJOY the Bisons Gone Wild Scavenger Hunt in the Museum Galleries and for a chance to win a fabulous prize prided by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries
  • INVESTIGATE the new  Legacies of Confederation: A New Look at Manitoba History exhibit in the Orientation Gallery and the Discovery Room
  • VOTE for your favourite cake in the Cake-a-toba cake decorating contest in Alloway Hall
  • VISIT the Parks Canada green screen photo booth for a chance to picture yourself at a National Park
  • WITNESS historical re-enactors of La Compagnie de La Vérendrye and Forces of Lord Selkirk  “firing” their muskets at noon, 1 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm on the Museum Plaza

PLANETARIUM SCHEDULE

Perfect Little Planet • 11:30 am & 2 pmDiscover our solar system through a new set of eyes – a family from another star system seeking the perfect vacation spot. Fly over the surface of Pluto. Dive over the ice cliffs of Miranda. Sail through the rings of Saturn. Feel the lightning storms of Jupiter. Walk on the surface of Mars. Which destination would you choose? This 35-minute show is a solar system journey for space travelers of all ages.

 

The Search for Life: Are We Alone? • 1 pm & 4 pmGo on an awe-inspiring trip through space and time – from the depths of Earth’s oceans to the outer reaches of the cosmos –  to explore the links between life on Earth and the potential for life on other planets. Narrated by Academy Award-nominated actor Harrison Ford, this 35-minute show designed for general audiences, was developed by the American Museum of Natural History in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

 

Back to the Moon: For Good! • 3 pmExplores the past, present, and future of lunar exploration. Ride along with the Apollo astronauts, hear from some of the teams vying to win the Google Lunar X Prize, and see what humanity's future on the Moon might look like. This 35-minute show, narrated by Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movies), is designed for general audiences.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Planetarium shows are first-come first-served and have a limited capacity.  For the safety and enjoyment of all our visitors, once a show has begun latecomers will not be admitted and visitors leaving the show will not be re-admitted.
