Brown Bag Lunch Series: What a Pane! The History and Restoration of the City of Winnipeg Stained Glass Window

January 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Presented By: Dr. Roland Sawatzky, Curator of History and Cindy Colford, Manager of Collections and Conservation

Tuesday, January 14, NOON – 1 PM

Winnipeg’s Old City Hall was an iconic building, indicative of the economic boom period of the city.  But, the building suffered from chronic structural problems and was eventually demolished.  Saved from this historic building were two large stained-glass windows that are part of the Museum’s History Collection.  The identical arched windows, more than eight feet wide and four feet high, were originally placed above the two main entrances to the City Hall building, probably sometime in the 1890s.  In order to safely display one of the large and engaging artifacts in its new home, the new Winnipeg Gallery, restoration of the window was undertaken by Prairie Studio Glass.  The restoration work will ensure the artifact installation can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Join us the Auditorium, as Curator of History Dr. Roland Sawatzky and Cindy Colford, Manager of Collections and Conservation discuss the process of restoring the stained glass from Winnipeg’s Old City Hall.

Attendance to the Brown Bag Lunch Series is included with paid admission to any Museum area – the Museum Galleries, the Science Gallery, or the Planetarium.
