The Museum Collection Illuminated: Celebrating 50 Years

OPENS March 4, 2021 AND RUNS TO January 3, 2022

The Museum Collection Illuminated: Celebrating 50 Years will be the first exhibition in our newly renovated Discovery Room.  It celebrates the Museum’s 50th anniversary at 190 Rupert Avenue, while addressing some of the frequently asked questions about the museum’s collections, such as:

  • Where do the collections came from?
  • How, and why, do we collect artifacts and specimens?
  • How are collections used beyond exhibition?

All seven curators collaborated on the content, highlighting some of the interesting, and at times unusual, artifacts and specimens from the vaults.  The exhibition also features how our Collections & Conservation department documents and cares for the 2.9 million artifacts and specimens, and how our Learning & Engagement department uses the collections to engage with public and school audiences.

Visitors curious about the inner-workings of the museum and its history won’t want to miss this beautiful exhibition!

This project was partially funded with a grant from the Manitoba Government.
