WSO Celebrates the Nonsuch

July 4, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on July 4, 2018 at 8:30 pm

Musicians of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra
Julian Pellicano, conductor

The Nonsuch replica was built in England to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1970. It is considered one of the finest replicas in the world and sailed 14,000 kilometres of salt and fresh water before finding her home at the Manitoba Museum in 1974. This year, the Nonsuch Gallery is being transformed, updated with new immersive experiences, artifacts, and stories. The reopening of the Nonsuch Gallery in coincides with the 350th anniversary of the voyage of the original Nonsuch to Hudson Bay in 1668. Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra musicians will perform on the deck of the Nonsuch and around the ship in a program of water music from the pens of George Frideric Handel and other great composers!

Please note that the concert in the Nonsuch Gallery is a standing room only concert with limited seating reserved for those with mobility issues.

There will be a cash bar available with complimentary light appetizers served throughout the performance.

A second performance of the same special concert will take place at 8:30 pm, also on the Nonsuch.

The Museum Galleries will be open to explore before and/or after each performance. Doors to the Nonsuch Gallery will open approximately 30 minutes before each performance.
