Spring Break @ the Manitoba Museum

March 23 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Spring Break is back at the Manitoba Museum! March 23 through March 31, the Manitoba Museum is the place to be, with a week full of family-friendly activities, a brand-new planetarium show, a fun and interactive toddler zone, and more!

Join us on a journey through time and across Manitoba in the Museum Galleries. Board the Nonsuch, a full-sized 17th-century ship, and imagine yourself on an ocean voyage; go on a scavenger hunt to seek out fascinating things both big and small; explore a variety of pop-up, hands-on activities happening all week – examine fossils millions of years old,  touch furs and learn about the animals they came from, experience old fashioned technologies, and more.

Premiering March 23 and running throughout Spring Break is our newest Planetarium show, We Are Guardians! This award-winning, full-dome planetarium show looks at how our world, its peoples and ecosystems are intrinsically connected, and how with the help of satellite monitoring we can examine the links between human activities and climate change.

Plus, brand new in our Explore Science Zone in the Science Gallery, we’ll be introducing a pop-up Toddler Zone, with fun and engaging activities for your littlest explorers!

NEW! We Are Guardians

We Are Guardians is a highly immersive, leading-edge look at the role of satellites in orbit around Earth – how they monitor the effects of a changing climate, and how the information they provide will be crucial in our fight to reduce harmful emissions.

This program communicates the serious issue of climate change in a way that is more accessible to children. It is rated for ages 5 and up.

Airing at 12:15 pm and 4:00 pm daily.

In my Backyard

Join children’s entertainer Fred Penner from TV’s Nickelodeon as he explores things large and small, from the colours of the rainbow, to the reasons for the seasons. Through the use of entertaining songs and immersive environments, children are encouraged to participate while learning about the planets, constellations, meteors, the moon and more. Geared towards the youngest stargazers and scientists, In My Backyard is sure to instill a sense of wonder and exploration while encouraging children to explore their own backyards.

Airing at 11:00 am and 2:45 pm daily.

Edge of Darkness

Edge of Darkness features amazing scenes of places never before seen, gathered by key space missions that culminated with groundbreaking discoveries in 2015. Experience a spectacular flight through the great cliffs on comet 67P, a close look at the fascinating bright “lights” on Ceres, and the first ever close-ups of dwarf binary planet Pluto and its moons. This show is narrated by Hayley Atwell, who plays Agent Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Airing at 1:30 pm daily.
