An infant’s social understanding starts at home and expands as they explore the world. These interactions significantly influence how and what children learn.
This program helps Museum Babies shape their knowledge and understanding of the world through sensory experiences, play, and exploration. Museum Babies will learn by interacting with and manipulating objects from the Museum’s Education Collection.
Museum Babies will focus on different themes when they visit each Wednesday, enjoying hands-on activities, creating take-home crafts, and singing songs and nursery rhymes. After the program, everyone is welcome to explore the Museum Galleries for as long as they like.
June 7 – PLAY: Museum Babies will explore our collection of historical toys, developing imagination, concentration, self-confidence and sociability skills
June 14 – ANIMALS: A whole new world of wonder will open up as Museum Babies encounter animals from our collection.
June 21 – SOUNDS: Museum Babies will take in information about the world around them experiencing every day sounds and sounds found in nature.
June 28 – COLOURS: Colour will capture the attention of Museum Babies as they discover some of the most treasured, brightly decorated items in our collection.
Each visit will include some classroom time where we will sing songs and do hands-on activities, as well as Museum Gallery sensory experiences.
Though this program is designed for babies aged 6 to 12 months (sitting but pre-walking stage), walking babies are also encouraged to participate.
