Brown Bag Lunch Series: Aesthetic Intentions in Exhibit Design

February 5, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Aesthetic experiences affect every aspect of our lives, and are critical to those of us considering the development of effective museum spaces and exhibits. Whether those experiences are beautiful, sublime, grotesque, or kitsch, an examination of these concepts, and how we are affected by them, can awaken us to a new understanding of the world, helping us to discover the subtleties of what has been there all along.

The aesthetic experiences we describe affirm our search for modes of expression even more basic than language. This lecture examines the shift in usage of aesthetic categories over time, and how these ideas inform the design of spaces today. How does this shift reflect a change in society’s yearning? And how do these ideas inform the design of our museum exhibits?  Jaya Beange, our Senior Exhibit Designer, will let you know.

Join us on February 5th at 12 noon in the Auditorium. Attendance is free with Museum admission.
