The April 7 Beading Workshop is SOLD OUT.
The April 21 Beading Workshop is also SOLD OUT.
The April 22 Beading Workshop is AVAILABLE
Join us for a half-day beading workshop with master beader, Jennine Krauchi, and Manitoba Museum Curator of Cultural Anthropology, Dr. Maureen Matthews.
The workshop will begin with a thorough 1.5-hour introduction to the Museum’s extensive beadwork collection led by Maureen and Jennine. Participants will be introduced to beading on display in the Museum Galleries and get a behind-the-scenes look at the large and historically significant beading collections in our museum vaults. Participants will see beadwork that spans generations of mothers and daughters, work that shows the economic and cultural vitality of specific regions of Manitoba, and work which illustrates different indigenous cultural approaches to beads as a decorative medium.
Following the tour, participants will get to try it out in a 2.5-hour beading workshop with Jennine Krauchi, focusing on the Métis style of two-needle beading. Participants will come away from the workshop with an appreciation of the beading as both historical evidence and wearable art, and with their own small finished beaded panel that can be made into a pouch, a wall-hanging, or a pin-cushion.
Participants can choose between two available dates:
Saturday, April 7 • 12 noon to 4 PM – SOLD OUT
Saturday, April 21 • 12 noon to 4 PM – SOLD OUT
Sunday, April 22 • 12 noon to 4 PM – AVAILABLE
$79 general admission / $74 members
Admission includes all materials and light refreshments. The workshop will follow the same format on both dates.
