A Conversation with Martin Boyce

April 7 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

We are pleased to partner with the International Day of Pink and the U.S. Embassy to be a stop on their Stonewall Across Canada tour with activist Martin Boyce. Please join us on Friday, April 7 at 7:30 pm for a FREE presentation in the Manitoba Museum Auditorium. Martin Boyce is one of a handful of surviving Stonewall Riot activists, sharing the story of one of the most pivotal queer/trans action in history.

The Stonewall Riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. Patrons of the Stonewall, other Village 2SLGBTQIA+ bars, and neighbourhood street people fought back when the police became violent. The riots are widely considered a watershed event that transformed the gay liberation movement and the twentieth-century fight for LGBT rights in Canada and the United States.

Warning: This talk contains mature themes including references to violence.

This talk is part of April’s First Friday events. On the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm we are proud to offer FREE general admission to our three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. Tickets are not required for First Friday programming. To find out more about what else is happening on April 7 please click here.

Thanks to our partner the International Day of Pink for making this presentation possible.
