Museum Donor/Volunteer for over 41 years, and recipient of The Lieutenant Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.
Dedication and Consistency towards the Museum is a contributing factor to the creation of a strong sense of community. Doreen has donated countless items to the Museum’s collections from her family business to assist with the fundraising efforts of the Museum. She is a strong supporter of the Museum in every way possible. She donates her time, and she supports the Museum financially through her membership and support of our fundraising efforts.
Doreen has taken ownership of “Her Museum” and everyone she encounters during her time at the Museum. She is a tireless supporter and recruiter for the Museum! She acts like a proud mother showing off her children and in an interview in her 28th year at the Museum Doreen said “My twenty-eight years as a Museum volunteer have been like a parent watching a child grow up”.
Doreen loves the Museum, she loves the human and natural heritage of our province and she loves to share her knowledge with everyone she encounters. Every time she is at the Museum she teaches children to understand, respect and preserve our unique Manitoba heritage.
When asked why she donates her time and money to The Manitoba Museum, she says “We do it for ourselves first, we do it for enjoyment. I like history and children and education.”
