Manitoba Heart of Hockey

Manitoba’s first recorded hockey game was played between the Winnipeg Victorias and the Winnipegs on December 20th, 1890 at the Winnipeg Street Railway Rink.

This historic game paved the way for over a century of Manitoba hockey, rich with stories of dreams, diversity, and glory.

The Manitoba: Heart of Hockey exhibition is produced by the Museum to coincide with Hockey: The Stories Behind Our Passion.  Exploring themes of diversity, rural communities, pro hockey and the dream, visitors will see a variety of items on display that represent a collection of interesting trivia and hockey history from across the province. The exhibition provides a snapshot of some of Manitoba’s notable players and teams. Artifacts have been selected from as early as the 1890s and feature all-star treasures such as Jonathan Toews’ three Stanley Cup rings and Olympic medals, Terry Sawchuk’s Detroit Red Wings jacket, Jennifer Botterill’s Team Canada jersey, Reggie Leach’s Flin Flon Bombers blazer and the recently game worn equipment of Winnipeg Jet, Patrik Laine. The exhibition includes the WHA Avco World Cup Trophy and much more.
