If These Walls Could Talk

OPENS May 26, 2023 AND RUNS TO December 3, 2023

Urban Corridor, Museum Galleries

If These Walls Could Talk, a new exhibition in the Urban Corridor produced in partnership with the Rainbow Resource Centre, explores the history of the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Winnipeg from 1970 until the 2010s. This period of activism after the decriminalization of homosexuality in 1969 covers campaigns such as coming out (1970s), HIV/AIDS information (1980s), marriage and adoption rights (1990s and 2000s), protection for gender diversity (2010s), and more.

This exhibition provides a better understanding of the issues facing the 2SLGBTQ+ community over the past 50 years, and the types of activism used to advance and protect rights. 2SLGBTQ+ people have always been a part of Winnipeg society. They have a history, and it should be told on their terms – that’s why Rainbow Resource Centre is leading the way. The Museum is honoured to facilitate this telling of history. If These Walls Could Talk opens on May 26 and will run through to December 3, 2023.

Access to this exhibition is included in General Admission to the Museum Galleries.

This exhibition is produced in partnership with the Rainbow Resource Centre, and funded in part by the Manitoba Government, Department of Sport, Culture, and Heritage.
