Winnipeg, MB (May 14, 2019): The Manitoba Museum welcomed 7,700 visitors to celebrate Manitoba Day on Saturday, May 11. Though Manitoba Day is actually on May 12, the Museum chooses the nearest Saturday to ensure as many people as possible can take advantage of the free admission to the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. Manitoba Day is made possible through the generous support of presenting sponsor Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries.
Visitors enjoyed a scavenger hunt in the Museum Galleries with many lining up to board the Museum’s iconic ship – the Nonsuch. Planetarium shows and the Science Gallery were filled to capacity for much of the day.
Many arts, culture, and heritage organizations were in the Galleries adding another layer of interest and winners of Manitoba Education heritage and science fairs got to show off their projects in Festival Hall.
This free Manitoba Day event is made possible through the generous support of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. As a participant in the Access for All community initiative, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries has thousands of Manitobans have access the Museum during Manitoba Day for the past 18 years.

The Museum is also grateful to Sobeys/Safeway/IGA, the exclusive grocery retailer for Manitoba Day, for their support, and the students from the Arts & Technology Centre in Louis Riel School Division for the amazing cakes.
Chrissy Troy from Virgin FM 103.1 emceed the program where Claudette Leclerc, Executive Director & CEO welcomed everyone on behalf of the Museum; and Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox brought greetings from the Government of Manitoba hinting at what was to come for next year for Manitoba 150 celebrations.
Always a crowd favourite, the seventh annual Manitoba Day Cake Decorating competition saw seven fascinating cakes created by students of the Arts and Technology Centre in the Louis Riel School Division. Inspired by the BODY WORLDS: ANIMAL INSIDE OUT feature exhibition in Alloway Hall, the winning cake – featured below – was A Day at the Museum.
