Winnipeg, MB (March 14, 2017): The Manitoba Museum is asking visitors to THINK BIG with its huge never-before-seen exhibit, World’s Giant Dinosaurs, which opens in the newly-renovated and expanded Alloway Hall on May 19. And volunteers are needed to take on a number of roles making sure that everyone’s Museum experience is a great one.

A variety of dinosaur-themed programming will support the World’s Giant Dinosaurs exhibit and the Museum needs volunteers to greet visitors, interpret in the exhibit and assist with hands-on activities for children, including a dino dig!

New this year, the Museum will be open until 9:00 pm on Friday evenings for the run of the World’s Giant Dinosaurs exhibit.  For those evenings, volunteers will assist in the Museum Shop, host visitors going aboard the Nonsuch, and interpret in the Museum Galleries. Also, for the first time, the Museum is hosting two family sleepovers and volunteers will get to help out with programs and activities to create a memorable “night at the museum” for families.

And of course, Museum Day Camps will include dinosaur-themed activities this year. Volunteers are critical in assisting staff with program delivery, crafts, and snacks.

“Volunteers are so important in making everyone’s Museum experience fantastic.  People who love history or science, are curious about dinosaurs – who isn’t? – and have a knack for engaging with people, will be welcome on our volunteer team,” says Noreen Hees, Manager of Volunteer & Employee Relations.

The Museum offers volunteers an opportunity to contribute their time, expertise and enthusiasm. In exchange, volunteers must be at least 14 years old and able to commit to at least one three-hour shift per week between May 19 and September 4.  Volunteering for the Day Camps requires a commitment of at least one full-time week (Mon-Fri: 8:30 am -4:30 pm).
