Shared Solutions wins Summit International Award

Lake Winnipeg: Shared Solutions recently won a Summit International Award for its Lake Winnipeg Watershed Simulator. Out of more than 5,000 submissions from 24 countries, NGX Interactive and The Manitoba Museum were named a Gold Award winner in the 2014 Summit Creative Award® competition for the creative work on the Lake Winnipeg exhibit.

140319-LAKE_WPG_EXHIBIT_4_17427929The Summit Creative Award (SCA) recognizes and celebrates the creative achievements of small and medium sized advertising agencies worldwide with annual billings under $30 million. Celebrating its 20th year, the SCA has firmly established itself as the premier arbiter of creative excellence for firms of this size and has become a coveted honor.

“Working with The Manitoba Museum and Aldrich Pears and Associates on this groundbreaking interactive storytelling experience was very fulfilling for NGX Interactive,” says Thomas Hepburn, Vice President, NGX Interactive. “We were able to stretch both creative and technical boundaries and the results are astounding!”

“It’s great to see that niche areas like science exhibitions have found a place in these mainstream international awards,” says Scott Young. “And it’s great to be recognized for the science communication work we do, and the expertise that NGX brought to the project.”

LWSS_01The centerpiece of Lake Winnipeg: Shared Solutions, is a high-tech computer simulation of the Lake Winnipeg watershed, allowing visitors to make decisions which affect the health of the lake. As lake stewards, visitors must decide which problems to tackle, and which solution has the desired effect.

“It’s not only about improving the lake,” says Scott Young, Manager of Science Communications and Visitor Experiences and the project leader for Shared Solutions. “Every decision has a cost, both in terms of economic impacts but also in the ‘social capital’ of the province – how happy people are with your choices.”

“Winning a Summit Creative Award is a significant accomplishment in ones career. With vetted judges, tough judging criteria, blind judging processes, and strict bylaws limiting winners, only deserving entries receive recognition,” said Jocelyn Luciano, Executive Director for the Summit International Awards. “The creative work this year was outstanding. Watching the judges debate the details of individual entries in the run-off for the tops spots was inspiring.”
